The Romantic Lounge is a new spa area located within the rooftop extension of the Mountain Residence Hotel. Introduced after the hotel’s opening, the space responds to the growing need for expanded relaxation and recreation areas, allowing the hotel to accommodate more guests. Seamlessly integrated into the existing architecture, the lounge brings together relaxation, group activities, and a connection to nature.
STRUCTURAL CHALLENGE
At the core of the design is a sculptural wooden structure. The irregular rhythm of the columns forms a complex geometry that required a high level of precision in both design and installation. Each structural element was fabricated individually, taking into account the constraints of rooftop construction. The junctions of the ceiling beams – set at varying angles – were resolved through a puzzle-like assembly. All engineering systems, including ventilation, are fully integrated within the structure and remain visually concealed.
TEXTILE ART
A distinctive feature of the interior is a 100-square-metre macramé panel, handcrafted from 1,500 kilograms of yarn. Created over the course of two months, the piece extends the visual language introduced in the reception area on the ground floor, reinterpreting the mountain theme through richly textured textile art.
BRIGHT AND COZY
During the day, natural light floods the interior through panoramic windows, drawing attention to the lounge’s defining feature – the sweeping mountain views. In the evening, the wood-burning fireplace becomes the focal point, naturally gathering guests around it, much like a campfire.
TRADITION - REIMAGINED
The theme of natural materials and weaving continues in the oversized ceiling fans suspended above the space. Combining ambient lighting with functionality, they enhance the lounge’s relaxed atmosphere. Each fan features two-metre blades made of woven rush, merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary technology and reinforcing the project’s overarching idea – a synthesis of authenticity and modern design.
EXPECTATIONS - EXCEEDED
“The project was conceived as a way to expand and diversify the recreational offering at Mountain Residence. Despite a tight timeline, the wooden structure was completed in just one month, while installation on the roof took only two weeks,” says Dmytro Bonesko, co-owner and art director of YOD Group.
